A local/national hero is coming home.
The remains of Pfc. Luther H. Story were identified 73 years after he sacrificed his life while fighting gallantly in the Korean War.
Story, who was born in Buena Vista, was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor, the nation's highest military award, for his actions on the battlefield on September 1, 1950. He had been missing ever since, but his remains were recently identified and returned to the United States. He will be interned in the cemetery of Andersonville National Historic Site on Memorial Day, May 29 (time TBA).
