For the past five years, the University of Georgia Extension Service has worked with five counties, including Stewart, on a "Healthier Together" initiative. The goals of the program are to increase community access to healthy foods and physical activities. The program has been funded by the Center for Disease Control (CDC).
The Stewart County program has sought to enhance obesity prevention efforts. Now, the five-year CDC funding cycle has come to an end, but those who have been a part of it hope it has and will continue to make a difference.
