The Stewart County School System is making a concentrated effort to improve the education received by its young students with the "Get Fit Lit" initiative.
Numerous studies have proven that literacy is a key indicator for a person's future success in a variety of categories.
"The ability to read and write, with comprehension, is the basis for success in formal education," noted one recent study. "Adults who show greater literacy competencies often earn higher incomes, have better job prospects, lower risk of mental illness, and enjoy better health."
UNESCO Institute for Statistics says the numbers don't lie. The ability to read and write well is one of the major factors for the future success of young people.
