The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently sent an Emergency Response Team to lead clean-up efforts of a significant diesel/sewage spill in Buena Vista. The crews, which also include the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) and private contractors, spent a solid week on the effort, hauling away contaminated soil and sucking diesel off the top of three ponds/lakes.
"The incident was found to be a release of diesel from a generator the city was using to bypass the lift station (that pumps sewage to the treatment plant) while it is under repair, as opposed to a sewage spill," said Sara Lips, Director of Communications for the EPD.
