Murder Arrest in Lumpkin

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has arrested and charged Jerrell Staples, age 37, of Lumpkin, with felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony crime in connection to the death of Jason Jones, age 34, also of Lumpkin.
The Lumpkin Police Department asked the GBI to investigate. The Stewart County Sheriff's Office also assisted in the investigation.
Preliminary information indicates on April 29, at about 12:15 p.m., the Lumpkin Police Department responded to a report of gunshots on the 300 block of Main Street. When officers arrived, they encountered Staples, the owner of the home. In addition, officers found Jones dead in th...
