The Journalrecently had the opportunity to sit down and talk with Stewart County resident Dr. Shirley Perrymond, ex-teacher and founder of the Youth Challenge Community Theater (YCCT) in Lumpkin, about her work within the community.
Perrymond, originally a native of Crisp County, joked that she was "transplanted" to the Stewart County area in 1973 when she married her husband, Pastor Lamar Perrymond, reverend of the Way of Life Church in Richland.
She went on to say that her experiences in the county since then have shaped her love and appreciation for the area, which led to her developing a passion for education and the locals.
