The Conditional Use Permit (CUP) process may be changing in Chattahoochee County. Officials recently agreed that they need to review it after another public hearing had residents on both sides of the issue.
"It has driven a wedge in the community," said Commission Chairman Charles Coffey. "It's brought neighbor against neighbor."
Those comments came after a public hearing on a CUP request by resident Janet Lopez, who was seeking to replace a 1990 mobile home with mold issues with a new 2025 mobile home (on less than five acres) on Mustang Drive. The request came with a recommendation to approve from the Planning & Zoning Board.
However, after hearing numerous residents speak against the request, the commissioners unanimously voted to deny it.
