The Webster County Board of Education has announced its intention to opt out of the adjusted base year ad valorem homestead exemption established by Georgia House Bill 581. This referendum amends the Georgia Constitution and places a floating homestead exemption on all eligible residential properties.
Individual property tax assessments cannot increase more than the inflation rate, as measured by the Consumer Price Index or a similar method, in any given year unless the property is sold or significantly improved during the year, regardless of any increase in value rising from actual market conditions.
