The Commission of the Unified Government of Cusseta-Chattahoochee County discussed the possibility of increasing the local property tax rate for the first time in 17 years, as well as a potential new sales tax to offer property tax relief during their recent work session.
The commissioners also discussed a wide range of other items, including a tardy audit, the Recreation Department, recent confusion about the operation of the Recycling Center, and grant applications.
County Manager Thomas Weaver told the commissioners that it's getting more difficult each year to operate the local government at the current millage rate (property tax rate) and suggested that officials consider raising the rate for the first time since 2008.
