Schley County High scored a 28-0 win over Chattahoochee County High last Friday to start region competition 1-0. It was also Homecoming for SCHS, adding to the excitement.
The Wildcats took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter when Jonathan Leggett turned a punt blocked by Landon Martin into a touchdown. The home team not only kept the lead but kept the visitors off the scoreboard for the rest of the game.
"Defensively, anytime you shut out a team, you've done something," said SCHS Head Coach Darren Alford. "They had some injuries and I think they were down to less than 20 kids, but Chattahoochee has a lot of good athletes and there are a lot of snaps in a game, so a shutout was outstanding. Our defense played with relentless energy."
