The Schley County Commission is currently holding public hearings about the proposed increase in the millage (property tax) rate, explaining the increase and also how relief is possible in the future if the community passes the proposed new sales tax.
Three public hearings were scheduled by the commissioners to give citizens an opportunity to express their concerns about an increase in the millage rate. The meetings are required by Georgia law if the millage rate is set higher than the computed rollback rate. The computed rate is meant to produce the same revenue as the previous year adjusted for reassessed values.
The first two public hearings were held on Thursday, October 9th, and the third is scheduled for Thursday, October 16th at 9 am.
