A Chattahoochee County official's lawsuit against the county government he represents appears to be over after costing the local government more than $140,000, according to County Manager Thomas Weaver, who noted that figure doesn't include increases in insurance rates that are at least partially due to the cost of the lawsuit.
"We have seen an average annual increase of about $35,000 in additional legal fees each year," said Weaver. "2024 spiked to $78,000 in legal fees vs. our usual $35,000 annually, and 2025 will hit at least $60,000."
The cost of fighting the lawsuit in court was a major factor in the County Commission's recent decision to raise the property tax rate.
