Starting a small business is challenging. The odds are against the founders. Around 20% don't survive the first year. Approximately 59% fail within five years. Stretch that to 10 years and only around 35% are still in operation.
Thus, when a small-town small business serves its community for the long haul, it's an impressive feat.
Langston & Brown Funeral Service in Buena Vista is one of the rare small businesses that is still going after more than a half century. The business will celebrate its 60th Anniversary on January 17 and is inviting all of the families they've served to special gala (see invitation on page 8).
