GBI Arrests Ellaville City Manager for Theft

McChargue Accused of Stealing at least $429,949
The Ellaville community was shocked by an alleged scandal of significant proportions last week when City Manager Donna Lynn McChargue, 50, was arrested and charged with 29 counts of theft by taking. The charges stem from her role with the City of Ellaville's local government.
She began working for the City of Ellaville as a billing clerk in October 2014 and was named city manager in June 2015.
The arrest was made by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), which launched an investigation in October of 2025 at the request of the Southwestern District Attorney's Office. During the investigation, many suspicious purchases and withdrawals made by McChargue were found.
