The Commission of the Unified Government of Cusseta-Chattahoochee County pledged to fund additional workers for two local constitutional officers in their next budget, in spite of facing an expected huge increase in insurance expenses, and discussed a wide variety of items during a recent budget hearing/work session.
Sheriff Hank Lynch spoke to the commissioners and reiterated his strong desire to have funds for an additional deputy. He said the Sheriff's Office has slots for eight deputies but funding for one deputy position was cut three years ago.
The sheriff said that it is currently very difficult to keep two deputies on at all times, which he prefers to do, including at nighttime. He said it can be very dangerous to only have one deputy on call without anyone...
