The Schley County High School Wildcats staged a gritty second-half comeback to edge out the Hawkinsville Red Devils, securing a thrilling 27-19 victory, last Friday in Wildcat Stadium.
Hawkinsville drew first blood late in the opening quarter, striking on a 33-yard touchdown pass with 4:26 on the clock. A successful extra point put the visitors up 7-0.
Schley County answered midway through the second quarter when sophomore quarterback Clay Hicks found senior Jayden Figueroa for a 3-yard touchdown pass with 6:48 left. Omar Cisneros split the uprights on the extra point to level the score at 7-7.
The deadlock lasted all of 14 seconds. Hawkinsville's Jeffrey Williams took the ensuing kickoff 65 yards to the house, putting the Red Devils back in front 13-7 aft...
