The storms that hit the area last Wednesday, June 14 and Thursday, June 15 brought a considerable amount of lightning with them and sparked enough fires to cause some serious damage - including the loss of a home and destruction of a garage and vehicles.
"Marion County and City of Buena Vista Fire Departments responded to multiple calls during a 30-hour time period that resulted from lightning strikes that resulted in structure fires," said Buena Vista & Tazewell Fire Chief Shaun Raulston.
Volunteers responded to the first fire around 8 am on Tuesday, June 14. The garage/race car shop of Lonnie Taylor at 341 George Cannon Road was fully engulfed upon firefighters' arrival and was a total loss.
