The Commission of the Unified Government of Cusseta-Chattahoochee County recently entered into a partnership with River Rock Dog Rescue, a nonprofit, no/low-kill pet adoption service.
Founder and President Casey Rowan spoke to commissioners in a meeting earlier this month, explaining how they can work hand-in-hand with the county government, which has an Animal Control Department and a facility.
"We are a nonprofit and we can apply for grants that government entities aren't eligible for," said Rowan, noting that they have helped make big strides in animal control/rescue in nearby Stewart County.
"Rural counties have a huge need with stray dogs," she noted. "We look at these rural communities and they don't have a lot of resources."
