The Schley County Commission discussed cracking down on late utility bills, made a compromise with residents requesting maintenance of a private road, and conducted other business during its monthly meeting.
County Manager Doug Jamieson said that the county has $21,298.47 in arrears on payments for utilities. Going forward the bills will be due on the 15th, a penalty will be added on the 16th, and cutoffs will be on the 25th.
Discussion of the trash pick-up billing pointed out that some did not have a trash can but have continued to be billed. It was decided to forgive all past dues on accounts that do not have a trash can.
