The Marion County High School football team followed up two preseason wins with its first official victory of the 2023 season last Friday night, as they stumped Class 4A Shaw High in a comeback win in front of a nice crowd in Eagle Stadium.
Marion trailed 2-15 until late in the third quarter. The Eagles then put together a 9-play drive that culminated with a 1-yard touchdown run by quarterback Ty Goodroe. Cecil Young kicked the extra point to make it 9-15 and put the Eagles within one score.
The defense continued to hold strong and with 2:19 left in the game, at the end of a 10-play drive, Quindario (Do) Kelley scored on a 21-yard run. Young’s kick game the Eagles a 1-point lead, 16-15, and they held on for the win.
