Schley County Show Horses

 In 1827 land grants of 808 acres in the northwestern portion of what would become Schley County were given to members of the Myrick family. John Myrick and his wife Teri spend most of the year on part of that original land. They raise registered Percheron draft horses and show them here in Georgia and in states is the northeast of the country.
 The Percheron breed of heavy draft horses originated in the Perche region of France. Initially bred for war, the breed was favored by medieval knights for their strength and size.
 However, as society's needs shifted from combat to agriculture, so did the Percheron's role. They became essential in farming and heavy draft work, adapting from battlefield to farm life. They were imported from France to the United States and beca...
