The Schley County High Wildcats had a couple of valiant comeback attempts fall just short in their playoff series with Lanier County and saw their successful season come to a close on Monday in the Elite 8 (quarterfinals) of the State Playoffs.
After winning the first game 6-3, they fell by close scores of 9-10 and 5-6.
"Heading into the series I felt we had a good shot," said Coach Chuck Cheek. "We've battled with Lanier in previous years and they are always aggressive and athletic. We put too many runners on base and they have a lot of guys who can run, so a walk, a bloop single, or whatever they do to get on first base is like a double."
After falling behind in both of the last two games, they battled back and never quit, but came up a tad short.
