Stewart County Loses Longtime Leader, Chairman

 Stewart County has lost a longtime leader. Joseph B. Williams, Chairman of the Stewart County Board of Commissioners, died June 10, 2024 at Columbus Hospice. He was 84 years old.
 Chairman Williams was one of several citizens who petitioned the state in the late 1990s to make Stewart County's government a multi-person Commission. He won a seat in District 2 in 2012 and has served on the board continuously since. He became Chairman in 2017.
