The Marion County High Eagles showed a lot of heart but came up just short, 23-21, against Hawkinsville in a thrilling season opener at home last Friday, Aug. 16. Mason Coley hit a 32-yard field goal for the visitors with only 8 seconds left in the game.
"Our guys played really hard," said Head Coach Billy Law. "We just made too many mistakes. Take away a few mistakes and we would have won 21-7. Our defense is holding up pretty good even with a freshman and three sophomores on the field. ... We need to clean up our blocking and tackling and get some experience with our kicking game, and we're going to be alright."
