Local officials are residents are counting their blessings after Hurricane Helene shifted to the east enough to spare our area any major damage.
While our area dealt with some small, scattered power outages, downed trees, and washed-out dirt roads, the eastern portion of the state was hit with devastation that included 25 deaths. As this newspaper was being finalized Tuesday morning, Georgia Power still had 490,801 customers without power, while Georgia's EMCs reported 193,759 outages remaining - mostly east of I-75.
