The Grand Jury that convened on October 28 in Marion County formed a committee to tour the Marion County Jail and after reviewing the findings of the committee made the same recommendation as numerous grand juries before them - the county needs a new jail (or at least renovation of the existing one).
This is not new information. A grand jury made a recommendation for the construction of a new jail way back in 2013. Since then, at least eight grand juries have come to the same conclusion.
The most recent recommendation was: "The Grand Jury recommends that the County Commission form a committee to look at the cost and options of either renovating the existing jail or building a new jail. More capacity...
