Marion County High School was recently the scene of a massive emergency response. Thankfully it was a mock response designed for educational purposes.
However, actors and local emergency workers were used to help make the simulation appear more realistic.
Teacher Jessica Pickren's Introduction to Healthcare Science classroom was temporarily transformed into an emergency room on a very busy day. The scenario was that the emergency room was suddenly flooded with survivors of a massive car pile-up on the highway. Those ER patients combined with "normal" patients made for a very hectic atmosphere.
"It was designed to be chaotic to let them know how quickly you have to react in healthcare because you don't always get 30 minutes," said Pickren. "I wanted to help...
