The Georgia Society of the Continental Society Daughters of Indian Wars placed a marker in Marion County on December 7 to commemorate the Creek Trail of Tears. This marker, which has been in planning for a couple of years, is their state project.
The marker marks the location of the Federal Road in what was The Creek Nation here in Marion County. This area is near the villages where the Creeks and affiliated tribes, such as the Uchee, began the Indian Removal in 1827, gathering at Ft. Mitchell in Alabama before they traveled to Oklahoma, in what would become known as the Trail of Tears.
