Marion County's new Federal Road Heritage Park in the Oakland Community had a very special guest and dedicated a new historic marker on Saturday, March 29.
The guest was non-other than Marquis de Lafayette. Actually, it was actor Charles Wissinger, but he did his best to make it seem as if "Lafayette" was present, refusing to break character even after the program was officially over.
The event was part of "General Lafayette in Georgia" - a Celebration and Reenactment of the Bicentennial Tour Lafayette took when he returned to the USA after the American Revolution. The series of events followed the route he took 200 years ago, from Savannah all the way across the state.
