The Commission of the Unified Government of Cusseta-Chattahoochee County passed several amendments to its current fiscal year budget during its recent regular monthly meeting.
The largest amendment was for legal expenses. They had originally budgeted $50,000, but that has already ballooned to $105,000 and is projected to climb to around $150,000 by the end of the fiscal year. That's a 200 percent increase.
The commissioners did not discuss any legal cases or any specific reasons for the huge increase.
One likely contributing factor is the ongoing legal battle between the Commission and one of its own members, Commission Damon Hoyte.
