Cusseta's Kendell "Dee" Riner grew up in a log cabin with holes in the floor, contracted malaria when he was 10, survived the Great Depression, served his country through three wars (in two different branches), retired from the military, started and completed another career, survived cancer and a broken back in the same year, helped start the local fire department, loved his family, country, and community, and had a lot of fun along the way.
He turns 100 years old this Thursday, September 25, 2025.
Mr. Riner was born in 1925 in Adrian, Georgia (Johnson County), one of eight children (5 boys, 3 girls). Only he and his younger sister, Montine Neal, 94, are still living.
