As recently reported, the City of Buena Vista was awarded a grant of up to $1 million from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources to build a new City Park, which will be named Josh Gibson Park after the famous professional baseball player.
It's a 50/50 grant, so city officials have to come up with matching funds before they can proceed with the big plan. Since the grant is for up to $1 million, it could be less. For example, if the city only comes up with $200,000, then the state grant would also be for $200,000.
While they work to figure out the local portion of the funding, Mayor Kevin Brown is confident enough that they'll get there that he is asking for Buena Vista/Marion County resident to volunteer to serve on park committees.
