Schley Principal was 30-Year-Old Hero

 The youngest high school principal in the history of the Schley County school system was undoubtedly William Ralston MacDonald. In 1940 the 25-year-old teacher paid $14 a month for the rental of a room in Lucy Dyess's home across the street from the Old Gym in Ellaville. In addition to teaching and serving as principal, MacDonald was the school coach.
 In the summer of 1942, he married a fellow English teacher and the school librarian, Jean Mauldin, who was from Cairo. MacDonald was from Vidalia.
 MacDonald joined the Army and served as Captain. He was killed on Sunday, June 17, 1945, on Okinawa Island as he attempted to place a machine gun on a hill where heavy gun fire was being displayed by the enemy. Okinawa Island had Click to read the rest of the story
