For fifty years, The Dime Store has served as the heartbeat of downtown Buena Vista, operating as a true small-town original where neighbors become family.
The story began in 1976 when Dawn Welch, a newlywed fresh out of high school who had fallen in love with retail while working at Rinn's Pharmacy, decided to take a leap of faith.
Supported by her husband, Kim, Dawn opened the doors to a business that would grow alongside the community for decades.
Running a small business while raising a family was no easy feat - competing as a "little fish" against larger retailers meant constantly adapting, and many a family meal was cooked on a small 24-inch used stove kept at the shop.
